My kitten has litter stuck in his paws. How do I remove and stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Male | unneutered

Hello, I have my kitten sleeping in my arms right now, and as usual while he sleeps I check his paws, nails, teeth and ears. Today in each passing there was white rocks stuck to his paw, when I tried to unattach one it came off but not any of the other. What is it and how do I take them off. (Looks like rocks from the litter, but how do I take them out and how do I prevent that from happening again?

These little litter granules can get caught in the paws. I suspect as Leo gets older he will get better at grooming these off of himself. You can rinse Leo's feet in water and these will likely come right off. If the litter is really getting clumped in the paw you could change litter type to something like Yesterday's News litter.
