My degu lost teeth after an accident. How can I feed him soft foods?

Updated On December 4th, 2025

I have a degu. Yesterday we had an accident. My sister sat on him for about three seconds when she realized he was under sheets. He was bleeding through mouth but ten minutes after that he started eating and drinking water normally. Today his two front teeth were lost. I know that he lost one baby tooth a month ago and I can see the other tooth growing. He is eating but can't eat hard food. How can I help him? He is friendlier than ever. He is chasing me everywhere. How to feed him?

I would 100% recommend bringing Veka to a vet ASAP to make sure there are not any internal injuries or broken bones from being sat on, especially if he lost teeth after the accident. If he checks out healthy, you may need to try softening his food if he is fed something such as a hard kibble or pellet diet, or mixing in water to make a slurry that you can hand feed. Pureeing any fruits or veggies in his diet may also make it easier for him to eat.
