Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 8 months old

Hello, my pet degu (3years old) struggling to breath, first I thought it was pneumonia then a common cold, but the symptoms are related to both. She is struggling to breath (now breathing through the mouth), white stuff is coming out of her nose, sometimes here is constant coughing and she uses her arm to wipe it off(sometimes I do when there is much of white stuff). My parents don't want to go to a veterinary so I texted you and hoping you can help ❤️thank you. Hoping to get an answer. ❤️

Thanks for reaching out about Maja and including photos. Pneumonia and/or upper respiratory infections are best treated with systemic antibiotics, requiring a veterinary visit. You can try using a small syringe to aspirate the nostrils in hopes of clearing. Nutrition is important, so small pieces of food that can be chewed easily as it is difficult to chew when breathing through the mouth. Short periods (5-10 minutes) in the bathroom during a warm shower might loosen nasal secretions. Still the best bet is to see a veterinarian. Good luck.
