Why is my cat opening his mouth to meow but no sound comes out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 4 days old

My cat was behaving normally until yesterday. But suddenly he has stopped meowing. I mean he opens his mouth to meow he applies the required pressure but his voice is lost i think. This was not the case since birth his voice was perfectly normal. Its only since yesterday that he doesn't meow even after opening his mouth and applying pressure. What could be the reason?

Upper respiratory conditions often cause loss of voice in cats. Most cases are viral and resolve uneventfully but he should be treated by a vet if there is any loss of appetite or weight or if additional symptoms develop
