My cat has ear hair loss, brown gunk, and discoloration. Is it allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 6 years old | 17.8 lbs

He has had earmites before and was treated for it with revolution. Now he just has this. What exactly is this? It is in both ears. I cannot take him to my current vet at the moment because there is an investigation ongoing about them saying they gave animals shots when they did not and scamming the owners. As you can tell he is missing hair in that area and there are brown and yellow patches along with debris and brown splotches in his ear with discoloration.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Angel regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.
