My kitten's ears are dirty, red, and painful. Is it an infection?

Hello my kitten has very dirty ears and some red patches around the mouth and ears area, when I try to clean the ears she cries it looks like an allergy what could it be?

Sherlock May have an ear infection or ear mites. The other red areas of skin may be due to infection as well or may be irritation from scratching at the ears excessively. I would recommend taking Sherlock to your veterinarian to be examined. Your vet can perform an ear cytology to determine the type of infection and prescribe medication so you can treat it effectively. The ears probably hurt because of the inflammation present.
