My dog has a fast-growing, hard, bleeding lump. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 45.7 lbs

This is a very fast growing spot and now I see a few others that seem to be forming near it. I'm Very scared & I haven't seen anything like this online. This started about 2 weeks ago, like a pimple, then grew to a "pencil eraser" size/shape & was soft, now it's Hard, bleeds, no puss & almost like a coin is in her skin! Please let me know what you think this could be & is it dangerous/fatal?! Tippy is my Emotional Support Dog & my Savior, she's a Lab/Pitt mix, is almost 4yrs old & spayed. Thx!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be benign or malignant growths. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good night!
