Why is my dog suddenly flinching when touched on her head or tummy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 7 months old | 4 lbs

Doctor Melanie,at some point, three days ago she did flinch when someone would touch her tummy area and when someone would try to pet her on the head. She wasn't like this before. What could it be? We're going to take an ultrasound on Tuesday and then do whatever the vet suggests us. Please pray that it's nothing serious.

I will hope that there is nothing seriously wrong with Bella! It could be that her abdomen was sensitive that day, and she didn't want it touched. When dogs have an upset stomach, they are more sensitive to being touched in that area. I think it's a good idea to have an ultrasound done to check on her, and as I said in a previous post, just monitor her for now and take her into a vet right away if she becomes sicker.
