Why does my dog smell like a dirty belly button? Is it anal glands?

I took my car to the vet. Turns out he had ear mites. But he still smells they said it was anal glands. But I just realized why it smells familiar. He smells like dirty belly button? It gets worse then goes to normal then fine? He has no other symptoms. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 14 years and 9 months old | 9 lbs

Anal sacs can smell pretty badly, and if they get impacted, that can cause a problem. Sometimes cats will also release the contents of their anal sacs due to stress. I'd try Glandex to see if that helps.
