Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 9 years and 9 months old | 18 lbs
I have a Maine coon mix. He's had a couple echocardiograms and had mild to no cardiomyopathy. A slight thickening in his focal with no progression. He's been itching a lot lately and has no parasites. I give him omega 3 6 9., cq10 and cosequin. Do you have better advice?

Gorgious cat! Cats can be very good groomers and when a flea jumps on them, they eat it right away and you never see it. Consider a ongoing flea prevention medication. I doubt he has lice, but that can be itchy and hard to see. I would consider. Revolution.

I am sorry to hear about Smoke's itching! The common causes of itching in cats include ectoparasites (fleas, mites, lice), atopy (allergies to airborne allergens like pollen, grass), and food allergies. We can also get bacterial and fungal infections of the skin which can be secondary to these issues. Many cats do respond well to fatty acid supplements combined with an antihistamine such as cyproheptadine or hydroxyzine. Others may need more powerful medications that modulate the immune system (Atopica is one we use in cats). I would recommend an exam by your vet to help determine the underlying cause of the itch and get effective prescriptions to help the itch! http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A
