Why is my dog drinking and peeing a lot with high liver enzymes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 7 years and 4 months old

Just told dog cannot have anesthesia because of very high liver enzymes. Only symptom at home is lots of water, thus frequent urination. Belly seems to be tight, but otherwise a very active and happy pup. 8 yrs. old and no problems till now. Was to have teeth cleaned and a mole on side removed today. Online reading mentions Milk thistle - is this recommended. I just want some kind of answers or questions to ask when I pick him up today.

Specific elevation of some liver enzymes with the signs you described could be compatible with a variety of disease a part from liver ones. Endocrine diseases like Cushing's syndrome should be ideally investigated. To be more specific I would need to actually see the results of tests done so far.
