Dog has recurrent diarrhea after bland diet, no parasites. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog was having wet stool, so we began the bland diet about 5 days ago. Shortly after, he pooped fairly normal, but thwn didn’t poop for 2 days and then had wet stool again. His behavior has been normal, and the vet ruled out parasites & giardia. What should we do?

Since your dog improved with bland food initially, you could try a probiotic such as Fortiflora for a few weeks and see if his stool normalizes. If he continues having recurrent diarrhea then he may need a course of medication, or further workup to get to the bottom of why he's having diarrhea. Diarrhea can be caused by many things, including stress, food changes, food sensitivities, inflammatory GI conditions, absorption problems, cancer, etc. It's common to treat diarrhea symptomatically at first, but if it doesn't resolve or continues to recur, then further workup is warranted. Hope this helps.
