Why is my dog itching, losing hair, and has a large lump?

I have a 8 year old black pug he has been itching a lot and now is bald from knecl down belly. I just found a 6 inch width hard mass or something under skin over left arm by top collar bone I'm very concerned. Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 25 lbs

Hello, sorry to hear about Zachary. It dogs that have severe itchiness and develops hair loss due to this, they can also develop thickening and hardening of the skin as a result of the underlying disease process. This could be associated with some for of allergy or skin infection. Other rare causes include cutaneous lymphoma which can also cause severe itchiness. All of these may be diagnosed with a physical examination, allergy testing, skin cytologies, and even skin biopsies.
