Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 lbs
My cat has a spot on her nose. Her nose is pink. I’ve always noticed small darker spot right on top of her nose. It’s grown larger. Should I be worried?

Unless the area is causing any problems, I would not say it is a cause for immediate concern. Without biopsy of the affected region, you cannot know for sure unfortunately, but it is not at all uncommon to see pigment changes on the skin, nose, or paw pads as animals continue to grow and age. Hope this makes sense.

That is a change in the pigment on the nose. It can change from irritation, sun, an injury or a tumor. As the area looks smooth with normal skin it's nothing to be overly concerned about. Should the area get raised up, irregular around the edges, start to bleed or get crusty then I would be concerned about cancer. This is a normal change in the skin. I would watch it like you are doing and get a veterinary exam if you see any of the above changes. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Bits.

What an adorable cat! I see that the skin pigment is covering a larger area. This can be due from aging and from mild skin irritation as he licks his nose. The skin itself looks normal and smooth. When cats have skin cancer the skin is usually slightly raised, and rough with uneven skin margins. I’m glad you are watching this. I would continue to take a photo monthly so you can monitor for any changes, and feel it also to make sure the skin is smooth. This is nothing to be overly concerned about at this time, just a normal aging change. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for George.
