My dog's torn paw pad. Can I treat it at home or does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 30 lbs

My dog has a scrap on her carpal pad. And some skin/paw pad is hanging off. Is this something I can treat at home or do I need to take her to the vet

Poor girl. This may heal on its own since it appears that it is a scraped off paw pad. You can try over the counter Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for a few days. I wouldn't place anything else topically on this. If it isn't healing well, then its best to take her to your vet to have this treated with antibiotics and a possible bandage. I hope everything works out well for your pet Hela and her torn paw pad. They can take a while to regrow, but most do well. Take care!
