My senior dog drinks lots of water and coughs. Should I see a vet?

Question

13 yo 7lb toy poodle drinks excessive amounts of water followed by coughing spell. Everything else normal. Does she need to see a vet? Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | 12 years and 11 months old | 7 lbs

I would recommend for her to see your vet. It sounds like she could have a respiratory infection. I would also only allow her to drink small amounts of water each time so she doesn't accidently aspirate or throw anything up from drinking too much. Your vet will be able to listen to her heart and lungs and get her started on some meds if needed. Try to video the coughing spell if possible as it may help your vet with diagnosis.
