Updated On September 23rd, 2025

We found little white worms in our puppy's feces today. Does he have to see a vet or can it be treated at home?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. It is best for the puppy to see a veterinarian for fecal testing. It is possible for a puppy to have more than one type of parasite. By having a fecal sample checked the best choice in deworming medication can be prescribed for your puppy. It is also important to know which parasite your puppy has as some are transmissible to humans. I hope this information helps!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry to hear Chicharito is having an issue with worms in his stool. I would recommend having his stool evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine what type of worm(s) he may have, and then have an appropriate dewormer prescribed. I would also recommend he be started on a monthly heartworm preventative that includes protection against intestinal parasites for the future. Good luck!
