Why is my cat attacking us after getting a new kitten? How to stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

So my cat lately has become really dangerous, she started attacking us on daily basis and not only some scratches, they are actually really deep and sometimes she bites too so we have some blue spots. She was doing some attacks before but like once in a while, after we brought a little kitten her attacks became more frequent and more dangerous. We went to our local vet but they didnt know anything and they were actually really shocked. My mother is thinking to throw the cat away. Please help me

If you have a new kitten in the house it is likely very stressful for your older cat which could be the cause of the sudden aggression. Making sure both cats have their own access to food, water, bedding, litter boxes, etc can help decrease intercat problems and stress. Adding in a pheromone diffuser in all shared rooms can also help. You will want to introduce the kitten slowly over time to help avoid stress and allow your older cat to get used to things without starting fights.
