My adult guinea pig is poking the new baby. Will they get along?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Female

I had two guinea pigs and yesterday night one of them died (male guinea pig) and i was worried that the female one(adult) will feel alone. So today i bought a new baby guinea pig which i also female. And I'm observing that the adult one keep on poking her nose on the backside of the baby guinea pig's body, will they both get along with time? Should i be worried that they would ever fight?

I am so sorry to hear about your guinea pig. There can be a period of adjustment as they get used to eachother and she is probably smelling the new pig and testing his personality. Occasionally we do have guinea pigs fight, so if she seems to be aggressively pushing him you may consider putting a divider in the cage for a period of a time when they are not supervised to let them get used to eachother's presence without the risk of injury.
