My senior chihuahua has a fast-growing, pink, bleeding paw lump. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 9 years old | 5 lbs

My chihuahua has a pinkish growth on her paw pad. It has gotten quite big in a short period of time. At first a thought it was an abscess but is more meaty and sturdy it has some veins and some times it bleeds. I've been having a hard time trying to get her to the vet, because their office closes before I end my shift at work. What do you think it is. My dog is a senior.

Hi, and thanks for your question. Although a picture of it would help to give you more specific answers, this lump/growth should be ideally examined by your veterinarian to have a definitive diagnosis. Your vet will examine it and possibly perform with an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy. Differentials would include skin cyst, infections or benign or malignant type of tumors.
