Is my cat's homemade chicken and egg diet balanced? What supplements?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

Update my previous question, I forgot to add the new ingredients that I have for his food. I use three chicken breasts, some Chicken Livers, I'm going to be grinding up some eggshells for some eggshell powder karma I use 3 whole eggs as well as 1/3 cup of steel cut oats. For flavoring I use clam juice. I'm just wondering what nutrients my cat might lack on this diet and what supplement I could use if he is lacking any.

Hi there. Properly balancing a home-cooked diet is complicated, and is a bit beyond the scope of what we can do on a forum like this :) If you want to prepare your cat's food at home, I would recommend using the website www.balanceit.com to put together recipes that are nutritionally complete and balanced using ingredients of your choice, or consult with a veterinary nutritionist to help you formulate an appropriate diet.

This does not seem balanced - it can be difficult to formulate a balanced diet for a cat. I would recommend having a board certified veterinary nutritionist formulate a diet if you want to continue cooking for Hershey. BalanceIT is a good resource.
