Propalin for dog urine leaks: Safe? Side effects? Long-term use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | 7 years and 9 months old

Hi. My vet just prescribed Propalin for Cruz because he leaks urine. I just wanted to know if this is a safe option and if it's something he will have to be on for life or if it's temporary. Are there side effects I should look out for? Thanks.

This may be a lifelong medication for Cruz depending on the underlying cause of his incontinence. It is commonly prescribed for dogs for this condition. Side effects may include decreased (or loss of) appetite, restlessness, tremors, increased heart rate, cardiac arrhythmia or high blood pressure. Most dogs tolerate the drug very well.
