Why does my hamster freeze and stare at me without moving? Is she okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female | unspayed | 0.25 lbs

Why does princess stop and stare at me or just freeze for a long time. Currently I’m playing music in the living room that can be quietly heard from my room, where she is. She stares at me with her ears up and doesn’t move even when I touch her. I left and came back and she ran, quite quickly, into her tube and is frozen in her tube right now. Is she okay?

Sometimes they just freeze as a defense mechanism or just to take everything in. If she is still eating and drinking normally and still playing and running around I wouldn't be too concerned. If this behavior gets worse or more frequent or if she stops eating or starts acting tired all the time, I would have a vet take a look at her. I hope this helps!
