My cat is constipated after vet. How long until Miralax works?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 14.5 lbs

Our cat is constipated, he was into the vet overnight, sedated to extract feces. He's home now told to give miralax with his food plus make sure he gets enough water. He's not pooping like he should what do we do, how long before miralax works?

Micralax should work straight away (or at least in 2-3 hours from administration). If constipation persists, I would recommend another immediate check up as abnormal dilation of the colon may be affecting him and specific medication to stimulate motility may be needed.
