Why did my betta fish die after changing tanks and getting discolored?

Hi, My friend had a pet baby beta and she had it in I would say about a 8 gallon tank. later on we noticed it was getting discolored and was swimming slowly ,we put it in a smaller tank but it died a few hours later. What happened?

Thanks for reaching out and sorry about your fish. Not sure if the cause of death can be identified but changing the tank would be a concern. Were water temperatures, pH, and addition of dechlorinator all checked prior to placing your fish in. Might have come with a disease or parasitic infection. Sorry again.
