What's the best food for a dog with urinary crystals besides Royal Canin?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My small chihuahua had a UTI back in May, and had some lingering crystals in her urine a month later. I've had her on Royal Canin urinary so food since then, and my vet said it would be best to just keep her on that for forever. I'm looking fo a second opinion, hoping that maybe she could try something better, less processed, more wholesome. What would be your opinion on that? I definitely don't want her to develop more crystals or stones.

The best way to prevent further crystals and potential stones in your dog is to keep her in the Royal Canin diet your veterinarain has prescribed. This is a specific medically formulated diet for dogs that are prone to crystal and stone formation. Think of it as a medication to help prevent further problems. There has been extensive research in to this diet to assure that is it complete and balanced. I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
