What are the yellow, hard patches on my kitten's skin causing hair loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | 1.3 lbs

HELLO. MY CAT IS 2 AND A HALF MONTH OLD. WHEN I TRIED TO GROOM HIM TODAY I NOTICED SOMETHING HARD TOUCHING MY FINGERS ON HIS SKIN. I SAW A FEW PATCHES OF YELLOW COLORED HARD PARTICLES WHICH MADE HIS HAIR STICK TOGETHER. GROOMING ON THAT MAKES A HUGE LOSS OF HAIR. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE

Persians are very prone to ringworm. So your kitten could have ringworm or another skin infection. Ringworm is contagious to people, so make sure you wash your hands after grooming your kitten. Best have Louie examined by your veterinarian who will then take a brush sample and culture it to see whether it is indeed ringworm and who will also put your kitten on medication to get rid of it.
