What if my puppy and kitten ate my Xanax? Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 10 week old, 4lb domestic short hair kitten and 10week old, 5lb pitbull mix puppy may have swallowed two of my 2mg Xanax. What do I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Regardless of who got into this, that would be a very high dose of this and this requires a veterinary evaluation as soon as possible. If this happened within the last 2 hours, they may still be able to induce vomiting to retrieve some of the contents of the pills and start a decontamination process. They may also require supportive care as needed to keep them comfortable as some animals that are overdosed can experience deep sedation among other possible side effects. Good luck!
