My dog swallowed a toy. How can I help her pass the rest safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Female | spayed | 7 months and 24 days old | 36 lbs

My 8 months old standard poodle swallowed a big chunk of chucky ball surface (orange fiber kind) 48 hours ago. She pooped this morning partial of it out, how do I help her to pass the whole object as I am sure there is still some in her belly now. Thanks so much for your kind advice.

I am sorry to hear about Coco! If she is acting normally (eating normally, not vomiting, normal energy level, no sign of abdominal pain), you can try giving her a few teaspoons of canned pumpkin to add fiber to her diet to help things pass through. Alternatively, you could pick up a product called Laxatone which is a cat hairball laxative sold at pet stores (there are other brand names as well). If, however, Coco starts vomiting, has decreased appetite or energy, has abdominal pain or is straining to have a bowel movement these would be signs to seek veterinary care as soon as possible. Best of luck to you and Coco!
