Tapeworm segments are white and they are often seen on fresh poop. Also sometimes on the fur around his anus. They are caused by eating a flea when chewing on the skin, or eating a mouse or rodent. You can purchase tapeworm medication from PetCo, or your veterinarian. Make sure you treat him with a flea prevention product so he doesn’t get infected with tapeworms again. Tapeworms can’t be spread to people or other animals directly so you only need to treat him. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for your dog.
