One of my cat throws up his food often. I have tried gluten free food but it seems to continue. He has been cleared by the vet and most recently tried probiotics which helped some. Any ideas? Thank-you, Rhonda Black

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your cat. Chronic vomiting is a common problem in cats. In many cases it is due to inflammatory bowel disease. First though, I will check a fecal sample to rule out any parasites. Then I will check bloodwork to look for any other underlying disease. Depending on these results, I may run a specific blood panel that will assess pancreatic function and cobalamin and folate levels. Then I typically recommend a prescription diet trial. Once the cat is transitioned to the new food, he can only eat this diet and absolutely nothing else for a period of 8-12 weeks. I usually use a hydrolyzed diet that has anti-inflammatory properties. If the vomiting improves or resolves, then the cat will stay on this diet. I hope this information helps!
