Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Mucus in the stool is generally a sign of inflammation in the colon or intestinal tract. This can have a variety of causes such as a parasitic, bacterial, or viral infection. Sometimes certain infections can cause the stool to have a pungent odor. Food sensitivities can also play a role as well. I would recommend Scout see his veterinary for an exam and fecal test in order to get a better idea as to the cause so Scout can get appropriately treated. I hope this helps!
