Hey Ive got a 6 month old puppy and he has developed a dry sounding cough. He is showing symptoms of kendal cough yet has been vaccinated against it. At the moment he is waking up with a coughing fit for about 30 seconds then will carry on as normal. Also he will choke when he pulls on his leash, he has always done it but not as bad as he is now. He has human looking boogers on his nose and has been put off food. Could you please help us work out what could be wrong and how to make him recover.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From what your described, it sounds like Cosmo may have an upper respiratory infection. Even though he was vaccinated against the bacteria that causes kennel cough (bordetella bronchiseptica) there are other bacteria and viruses out there than can cause upper respiratory infections in dogs besides bordetella that Cosmo may have been exposed to. If he has nasal discharge, is coughing, and has been off food, I would recommend he see his veterinarian as soon as possible. Your veterinarian may recommend chest x-rays to determine severity and rule out other conditions. You veterinarian may also place Cosmo on antibiotics and other medications as necessary so he starts feeling better. I hope this helps!
