My dog has bumps on his nose. What are they and how do I treat them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 80 lbs

My poor lab has bumps on his nose, they seem to be doing a little better after applying bag balm daily but they are still there. Any idea what it might be?

Persistant lesions can be from allergies, parasites or sometimes trauma (especially if he's rubbing his nose on things). Less commonly it can be an autoimmune disease. I would recommend to see a veterinarian who may recommend a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to see if they clear up. The doctor may also recommend a skin scrape or giving him a product to kill potential mites. Make sure he is not traumatizing the nose by digging or rubbing it in the mean time. Make sure to keep them clean and dry. Topical medications can help but the pet will often lick them off which then is not effective and can be toxic if it's not safe for ingestion. I hope this helps!
