Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Dusty! Since Dusty was checked did the Vet start him in medications? Diarrhea can causes cramping and some dogs are very bothered by this. Since he has gotten worse I think he needs to be rechecked for blood work and belly X-rays. I treat diarrhea with metronidazole, probiotics and a prescription bland diet or if the owner wants to cook boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. 90% of dogs respond to this plan, those that don't need to be rechecked and need a work up. Since you are describing that he is in pain I would have him seen today on emergency. Possible causes are: ileus (air filled intestines that are not moving), pancreatitis, blockage from eating something or a mass, intussuceotion (would be strange in an older dog), other causes like liver or kidney failure or diabetes for cause of the diarrhea. I wish Dusty a speedy recovery!
