Best tick prevention for my dog? Pills, sprays, collars, or vet?

Hi! Recently we found a few ticks on my dog from the backyard. This is the first year we have had ticks so close. What is the best product to prevent ticks for dogs? Louie is a 15 lb poodle mix ~2 years old. There are so many product to choose from(sprays, collars, pills, etc). Do we need to see a vet to get a prescription? Thanks so much. I would love for him to be able to roam around the yard off leash again!

I’m glad you are concerned about keeping ticks off of your dog. They can spread lots of different diseases. I prefer an oral flea/tick tablet like Nexgard (lasts one month) or Bravecto (lasts 3 months) . The only flea/tick collar that I would recommend is the Serestro collar (lasts 8 months). All of these products work great and your veterinarian probably has one or more of them at their clinic. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
