My kitten has severe fleas. What should I do and what can a vet do?

I really need an answer quick....we just got a kitten....he is very young, we gave him a bath and discovered that he is SEVERELY INFESTED with fleas what should we do and what does a vet normally do for this with a cat that is young

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bath the kitten in plain blue Dawn dish detergent. Lather him up well and let the soap soak for a couple of minutes before rinsing. This is non toxic and will kill the fleas that are on him, but won't have residual flea control. Then I recommend contacting your vet for other options for long term flea control that is safe for a kitten.
