My turtle has shell rot symptoms. What should I do to help her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I need help with my turtle on what I believe to be shell rot. I have been cleaning the area and applying betadine and dry docking the turtle for a few hours. Is there anything else I could do to help her?

That looks more like an injury than rot. Keep cleaning the area followed by dry-docking. Maintain pristine water quality. Consider increasing temps by about 5-10 F temporarily to aid in recovery. Make sure she continues to eat normally. Ideally, Speedy should be physically examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. She may need antibiotics.
