Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

My 8 yr old denial husky has split the skin above her nail (at the bed of the nail) on her right front paw is there anything I can do before taking her to a vet we put a cone on her to keep her from licking it and also used a pet liquid bandage but it seems to still bother her

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Sakari! Without seeing a picture it will be hard to give advice. I am sure it is painful and it could be potentially infected. I wonder though if the nail is broken up at the nail bed and that is why it is so painful. When the nail is broken it is a constant source of pain. I think you have done all that you can do at home. You could try soaking the paw in Epsom salts twice daily and drying the paw well, though that may loosen the liquid bandage. I would have Sakari seen by a Vet Monday morning. I do not recommend human pain medications. I wish Sakari a speedy recovery!
