My cat is constipated after dry food switch. How to get her to drink?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old

1. We just switched her to racheal ray indoor complete cat dry vs Iams wet food seafood variety only Catori hasn’t produced a bowl in almost 72hours so since racheal ray dry food has dandelion greens, pumpkin and other things I believe she wasn’t getting from wet I have tried many different wet foods with her iams was the only one that made it less stinky but now she isn’t pooping regularly should we continue this new dry I got with some water in the food. How do I get her to drink water alone?

Water intake is very important in cats and some find the transition to dry food quite difficult; I would try adding some wet food initially and gradually reduce once she is more used to the dry food and her stool is frequent again. Offering freshly boiled chicken broth or putting some cod liver oil in the water bowl can helo attract her, try different types and shapes of bowls and consider a water fountain also. Poor fluid intake can predispose to bladder inflammation and crystals and should not be taken lightly
