Why is my puppy intensely scratching and losing hair on his belly?

My 11 month old chews, and scratches his body intensely. Mostly his legs and belly. He has lost his hair but has no sores or red spots. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 80 lbs

I would be concerned about fleas/mites and allergies. Typically I start treatment with flea prevention regardless if I see fleas or not. If there is hairloss I will also perform a skin scraping to rule out mites on the skin and if I suspect them I will start treatment. If there are no red spots or sores then it is less likely Bear has a skin infection. If either of those treatments don't work or it doesn't seem like he has either fleas or mites then I would start treatment for allergies. This can consist of daily medication (Apoquel) or monthly injections (Cytopoint). I hope Bear feels better soon and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
