My cat is straining to poop with red lining. What's wrong & treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 7 lbs

I have a 1 1/2 f cat that I believe has been staining it defecate for a while. Today I noticed that when she was going to poop, I could see her poop ready to come out and a little red lining around it. It did not protrude but I'm worried. What could that be? And how can a vet treat it? Thank you!

Cats can be prone to constipation. Making sure that Olivia is getting enough fluids either through drinking or through wet food might help her to poop. However, if she continues to be constipated, your veterinarian may want to perform and enema to clean out her colon. He may also prescribe medications that will help to get things moving.
