My dog swallowed cooked rib bones. What should I do and watch for?

Oh dear! It's never a good idea for dogs to eat cooked bones of any kind, since there is a chance that they may splinter and puncture the stomach or intestines, or become stuck and cause a blockage. It's also possible that they may pass through uneventfully without causing any problem at all. You will need to monitor your dogs closely for the next few days for any sign of problems. Symptoms to watch for would include repeated episodes of vomiting, acting lethargic, not wanting to eat, or blood in the stool. If you see any of these symptoms, you will need to take them to a vet immediately for x-rays to help determine what's wrong - they may need emergency surgery to remove the bones if they are causing a problem.
