Why is my puppy yelping and sore in his hind quarters after shots?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 8 months and 26 days old | 15.6 lbs

We just got Vito over a month ago from a couple who wanted to rehome him. He didn't have any shots so the 1st week we had him we took him in for his 1 st round and there seemed to be no reactions. He had some deciduous teeth removed and his 2nd round yesterday. A few times today he's jumped up and yelped and look at his hind quarters. I was wondering if it could be shot related?

Poor Vito! Yes, this could certainly be related to the vaccination yesterday - it's very common for puppies to be sore for a day or two in the area where the vaccine was given, just like kids :) If he received the vaccine in his rear end, this could certainly be the reason for the soreness. If so, it should resolve within the next 24-48 hours. If it doesn't, or if he develops any other symptoms, it would be best to have him rechecked by your vet in case something else might be wrong.
