My cat won't take oral ringworm medicine. Is a cream an option?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 13 lbs

We took our cat to the vet because she was losing hair on her head. They took a skin sample to see if it was ringworm. Until the results come back they gave us an oral medicine for the treatment of ringworm. Giving her oral medicine has been a real challenge. Is there a cream we can buy to treat skin

Topical treatment is not recommended in cats unless there is no other possible alternative and should not be used until the results are back. Cats are very active groomers and there is always the concern of ingestion of creams/ointments during grooming and they would not be used without an accurate diagnosis to guide their use
