My puppy is itching constantly. Can I give her Benadryl safely now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 6 days old | 27 lbs

My boxer puppy seems to be having either an allergic reaction or a skin issue. I'm searching for a good vet near my home but in the meantime my question is, can I give her benadryl to ease the constant itching?

That actually appears to be demodectic mange. You really need to get her to a vet for some testing and treatment. If it is mange it is pretty severe. Of course, it is impossible for me to tell for sure just by that one photo but I suspect that is what is going on. It could be an allergic reaction. It could be a bacterial infection of the skin. It could be an autoimmune disorder. It could be a different type of skin parasite. I don't think the Benadryl will help but you can try it. I would give her one 25mg capsule twice a day. Really though, get her to your vet ASAP. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
