My dog is biting her paw raw. What's causing it and how can I help?

My Bichon Frise has been biting the top of her paw for a week. It’s looking raw now. What do you think it is and how can I help her?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Opal. Hard to say exactly what this is. This could be a bacterial infection or possibly some type of skin growth that she is licking. You should take her to your vet. They can get a detailed history, examine her, and propose a diagnostic/treatment plan. Possible diagnostics are skin cytology, fine needle aspirate, biopsy, x-rays to evaluate the toe bones, etc. Treatment depends on what this turns out to be. Oral antibiotics, Elizabethan collar, possible surgery, etc. Good luck
