My new adopted parrot is scared of my hands. How to build trust?

We recently "adopted" a parrot since the last owners didnt really have time for it, it starts to open his mouth if i even show him my hand from a distance, I've been talking to it for about a week a few times a day and it still doesnt trust me, what do i do? It can take time for a bird to begin to trust you, especially if he's just recently been moved into a new home or environment. Try tossing a favorite treat into his cage every time you come by to visit, until he is more used to you. From there you can then start offering the treat from your hand, and gradually build trust.
