Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 7 lbs

Hi my 4 year old cat midnight won't stop scratching I've got her on benyadryl 1ml she is having 5 ml a day and has had it for 2 days I don't want to keep her on it too long and it hasn't worked yet. She is flea treated every month. She had steroids last year that didn't really help. It seemed to go away after December last year but she's so sad. I'm at my wits end. Please help. Thank God for you someone to ask.

I would recommend a checkup with your vet. Benadryl doesn't work for every pet, and it sounds like it is not working at all for Midnight. There are other antihistamines that can be used, but you will have to discuss them with your regular vet since it is illegal for us to prescribe them without examining her. There are also other causes for allergies if not from fleas, such as from the environment or to food. You may try a food trial to see if you can find something that Midnight is allergic to. This is the list of most common food allergens in dogs, but it is similar to cats: Beef – 32% Chicken -26% Lamb - 20% Pork - 16% Dairy - 14% Less than 1% of dogs diagnosed with food allergies will be allergic to grains Here is a great article on food trials and how to do them: http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=2499
