My puppy has dandruff and itchy skin. What can I do? Can I use lotion?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 15 days old | 15 lbs

My puppy seems to have some dandruff and seems to be itchy, especially on his legs and feet. What can i do to relieve his itching? Can I put lotion on him?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Riley should be examined by your veterinarian to rule out mange mites, such as demodex & scabies causing the dandruff & itching. I would not use lotion, as this may just leave your pup greasy. You can ease the itching by bathing Riley in an oatmeal based shampoo & cool water, letting him soak for about 10 minutes before rinsing. There are some other anti itch shampoos, such as ones that contain antihistamines or a product called Pramoxine that you can get on line or at the pet stores, but I would have things checked out first since Riley is so young.
